Frame protection is a practical addition to any bike, preserving the paint from stone chips, scratches and abrasion caused by cables, luggage or transport on a roof rack. Typical options include self-adhesive films made of polyurethane or PVC, neoprene pads for the top and down tube, and silicone or rubber buffers at points where regular contact occurs, such as at the brake cable or rack.
When buying, it is worth looking closely at the frame areas to be protected: chainstays usually need wider pads, while top and down tubes require slim, long strips. Look for dimensionally stable, weather-resistant materials and make sure adhesive films can be removed without residue. For parked bikes or bikes transported by car, additional pads at contact points provide useful security.
