Group sets

Groupsets bundle the essential components of a bike's drivetrain and shifting system into a single package: derailleurs, shifters or brake levers, crankset, cassette and chainrings are typically included, and depending on the scope, brakes and bottom brackets as well. A complete set saves you from selecting matching parts individually and ensures the components are designed to work together – a crucial point, since the number of gears, shifting logic and cable routing (mechanical or electronic) must be compatible.

When buying, first check compatibility with your frame and existing parts: brake type (rim or disc), cassette attachment on the rear wheel, front derailleur mounting and crank arm length are among the most important factors. Intended use and riding style also matter – from comfortable touring sets to robust versions for everyday riding to lightweight, performance-oriented groups for sporty cyclists. Pay attention to what's included in the package, as this varies from set to set.
